Universal Relativity- A Unifying Journey Through Scale

One moment in my life always returns to me.
It was 2007, in a remote Thai village, lying on the ground with friends and gazing up at the vast, unbroken night sky. The sheer scale of the cosmos was awe-inspiring. The arc of the Milky Way stretched above us—boundless and encapsulating in equal measure. It felt so distant, and yet somehow, intimately close.
In that moment, a realization took hold. Perhaps the most fundamental factor governing the universe is the one thing that is right in front of us, distant but close—its relative size and scale.
I visualized beams of light reaching me from distant stars, entering my eyes... and then continuing downward, shrinking further, descending deeper into unobservable depths. The vast became the small and the small became vast.
My friend turned to me and asked:
“Do you think the universe is infinitely big?”
I paused, considering my response.
“Perhaps… but if it is, could it not also be infinitely small?”
That question became a seed—one that would grow into a lifelong endeavour. The idea that the only true difference between the vast cosmos, our human world and the quantum realm… might simply be scale itself. And that scale, in turn, might be what connects everything.
My formal education in mathematics and physics ended in 2004 when I completed my A-levels and pursued a degree and career in medicine. But my fascination with the paradoxes and contradictions of the universe was just beginning, an ever-present companion.
The concept of Universal Relativity has since become a persistent pursuit—an intellectual blueprint developed methodically, through years of quiet contemplation and thought experiments. A framework I now believe may help unlock mysteries that have long perplexed our brightest minds.
Universal Relativity is inspired by, and built upon, the work of Albert Einstein—whose theories of General and Special Relativity redefined our understanding of space, time and gravity. But even Einstein acknowledged that his work was incomplete, that a grand unifying theory remained undiscovered. But what he did reveal were profound and measurable truths: that time and space are not fixed, but shift with mass and motion.
One of humanity’s greatest assets is the power of imagination—the ability to construct mental models unconstrained by the physical cage of our reality. That freedom allowed me to envision Universal Relativity before I could define it. What followed was a quiet but determined effort to fit the pieces together and create a coherent, scalable framework that aligns with what we observe, while offering new insight into what we may have previously misinterpreted.
At its core, Universal Relativity proposes that the structure of spacetime is not merely curved—it is scale-dependent. That clocks, distances, and even fundamental forces may emerge from the way scale transforms with position and motion. In this view, gravity isn’t a force or geometry, but a manifestation of relative scale.
I now wish to present this concept to everyone, with openness to be challenged, validated or falsified. Members of the scientific community and curious minds from all backgrounds can engage with the ideas, test them, critique them and explore their consequences. If this turns out to be correct, it belongs to all of us.
Throughout this series of articles, I will systematically work through the principles of Universal Relativity and show how it can be applied to physical phenomena. If the framework withstands scrutiny and aligns with data, it may offer a meaningful path forward in both science and philosophical discourse.
By confronting persistent paradoxes—from dark energy to quantum entanglement—I believe we can unify disparate observations under a single idea. Scale may just be the connective tissue of nature.
These ideas may not be immediately intuitive. They weren’t for me. But through analogy, thought experiment and careful logic, I believe they are accessible to anyone willing to engage with them. My hope is that this brings you closer to a more complete view of the universe—and in turn, of ourselves. The vastness above and the intricacy within both compel us to reimagine what we think we see. Not with new eyes, but with a new frame of reference.
